A taste of the tropics
Orange-pineapple ice cream is one of my childhood favourites. Zesty orange paired with the tropical flavour of pineapple in a delicious, rich, creamy ice cream—what’s not to love?
This four-ingredient recipe is super easy to make at home, too, especially if you use this simple no-churn method. No ice cream machine is needed. All you need is ten minutes, a bowl, a mixer (or whisk) and something to freeze the ice cream in.
Two-ingredient condensed milk ice cream
Did you know you can make the easiest ice cream out of just two ingredients? Heavy (or double) cream and condensed milk make a tasty, effortless, creamy, rich ice cream base with minimal effort.
You can add any of your favourite flavours, such as simple vanilla, chunks of chocolate, fudge, caramel, or your favourite fruit.
For this orange-pineapple ice cream I’ve added a spoonful of ANGOSTURA® orange bitters for a zesty orange punch and crushed pineapple for little pops of tropical flavour.
ANGOSTURA® orange bitters
ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters began in the town of Angostura, Venezuela, in 1824 when founder Dr Johann Siegert created a medicinal tincture for soldier’s stomach ailments. By the 1870s, these aromatic bitters had become an integral ingredient in cocktails and food.
Launched in 2007, ANGOSTURA® orange bitters were the first innovation from ANGOSTURA® in over 200 years.
The marriage of citrus oils from hand-selected oranges, carefully blended herbs and spices and nearly 200 years of knowledge, ANGOSTURA® orange bitters bring a unique orange flavour to any recipe they are used in. They won the Platinum Medal at the prestigious SIP Awards in 2018.
They contain none of the ingredients found in the original ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters.
ANGOSTURA® orange bitters are a versatile culinary ingredient that can substitute for orange zest in all food and drink recipes, including ice cream.
My Old-fashioned bourbon and orange ice cream and roasted strawberry ice cream recipes both feature ANGOSTURA® orange bitters while my coffee ice cream, based on the Cafe Trinidad cocktail, features both the ANGOSTURA® cocoa bitters and ANGOSTURA® orange bitters.
What you’ll need… (just four ingredients!)
- Heavy cream – this forms the base of the ice cream. To make this recipe no-churn, you whip the heavy cream until it forms soft peaks before adding in the remaining ingredients.
- Sweetened condensed milk – this thick, syrupy milk acts as a sweetener and gives the ice cream a delicious soft mouthfeel. It also makes scooping easier.
- ANGOSTURA® orange bitters – a versatile culinary ingredient used as a substitute for orange zest in all food and drink recipes, including ice cream.
- Crushed pineapple – tinned, drained crushed pineapple gives this recipe a refreshing, tropical flavour.

Tips for making this recipe
- Tinned crushed pineapple is easy, but you can make your own with fresh pineapple. Simply peel and core your fresh pineapple, cut it into chunks and then blitz it in a food processor until fine.
- Make sure your heavy cream and condensed milk are cold before beating with the hand mixer (or whisk if you’d rather use elbow grease!).
- Chill your freezer-proof container in the freezer before spooning the whipped ice cream in.
- Freeze your ice cream for at least 8 hours before serving.
- Allow the ice cream to soften for 5-10 minutes before serving for the best consistency.
