There are some finer things in life that I like to treat myself to. Good food, good wine and good books being three of them.
When I first moved to Scotland in the Spring of ’99 with nothing but an Army Surplus rucksack on my back I found myself rebuilding a book collection I’d sold in Canada to help fund my move over the big pond. A leaflet came through my letterbox one day introducing me to a book club called The Folio Society.
I signed up to their services, receiving a rather fantastic introductory offer of five books and I was completely wowed by the quality of said books. Each Folio Society publication is a work of art unto itself. Bound in a sturdy slipcase with fabric covered bookjackets they’re a pleasure to hold, never mind the fact that only the finest literature in the world gets this special treatment. They don’t just publish anything, you know.
Recently I was really excited to discover that my favourite London-based publishers, The Folio Society, had recently launched their eagerly anticipated Spring Catalogue. To my joy, I learned that the first ever food memoir, The Gastronomical Me by food hero M. F. K.
